You’re in for a ride of a lifetime, ladies and gentlemen! Rev up your engines and get ready to have the time of your life! A motorsports complex located in the heart of Clark County, Nevada, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) is one of the hottest in the country. NASCAR, NHRA, IndyCar, and more events have been held here, so it is not for the faint-hearted.

Richie Clyne, a race car fanatic, proposed the idea of a 1.5-mile superspeedway in 1985. Recognizing the potential for economic growth through tourism, the city jumped on board and financed the construction of the track.

As the NASCAR Busch Series took the track for a spin on March 1, 1996, the first race was held on the track. That same year, Jeff Gordon won the first race in the NASCAR Cup Series. As a result, LVMS quickly earned the reputation of being a fast and challenging track.

In addition to NASCAR, this track hosts many other events! The IndyCar Series made its debut on the track in 1997, the same year that the NHRA began hosting events there. Other motorsports series have been hosted by LVMS, including the Red Bull Air Race World Championship and the Global Rallycross Championship.

There have been numerous additions to LVMS over the years, including grandstands, suites, and amenities. It is one of the only tracks that hosts two NASCAR Cup Series races a season after adding a second race in 2006. The ownership of the track has also changed hands several times, with Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (SMI) purchasing it in 1998 before it was sold to Las Vegas Motor Speedway LLC in 2018.

I’d like to focus on what’s happening on the track! A number of memorable moments have taken place during the history of LVMS. Kurt Busch’s emotional victory at his hometown track in 2018 was a milestone win for the NASCAR Cup Series following Kevin Harvick’s incredible victory over Jeff Gordon in 2001 by just 0.076 seconds.
